Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, grandmother, and her godparents. Her father left her family. Ford suffered from anxiety disorder that was rooted in the word association when she was a teenager. Ford became interested in acting during her teens, and joined the National Youth Theatre. She was admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School but after one week decided she was not a fit. Ford then applied for a place at the Central School of Speech and Drama and was accepted on her 4th attempt. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler who is a character that was recurring in Doctor Who. Ford did not graduate until 1993. In 1991, however, Ford had made her first appearance on TV in an episode of Surgical Spirit. At that point, Ford adopted the stage name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning in the Nineties. The stage was her main focus as well as a part of the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up comedy style that she started adding to her show in the year 1996, was soon gaining her attention.
